What We Do

Think Ability Inc. is a private, not-for-profit agency that promotes independent living skills by providing community supports for people, of all ages, with developmental disabilities. Think Ability Inc. was established in the Duncan community in May of 1982 with one group home.  Since then our services have expanded to meet the needs of citizens, to now include two group homes, a 12 unit semi-independent apartment complex, a 20 unit modern apartment complex, and several other properties in the Duncan area that serve 4 people with 24/7 staffing available.

We also offer in-home supports and employ 50 people from the Duncan community, and serve over 47 people with Developmental Disabilities of all ages.Think Ability Inc. is guided by a Board of Directors, each of whom is dedicated to the agency vision to promote the independence and inclusion of each of our residents in the Duncan community.  We emphasize ability, not disability, and promote the belief that everyone can learn, everyone can make choices in his or her life, and everyone can contribute to the environment in which he or she lives.

Assistive training is provided to residents in all areas of life, depending on their individual needs and their individual level of accomplishment.  Staff works with each person to help him or her increase skills of independence in housekeeping, cooking, laundry, money management, personal choices, health and safety issues, mobility, self-medication administration, social skills and prevocational skills.

MISSION

We, at Think Ability Inc., are dedicated to improving the quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities through increased access to integrated life choices including residential, employment and recreation.  We are obligated to promoting choices and protecting rights.  We believe all life holds value and each individual is entitled to the respect and dignity we as board member, community service providers and citizens take for granted.  We are committed to assisting adults with developmental disabilities to achieve their highest level of independence and self worth by providing the appropriate supports.

ADVOCACY

Disabled advocacy ensures that the human and legal rights of people with disabilities are promoted and protected equally to that of every other citizen. Advocacy allows people with disabilites to fully participate in the community. A staff member of our organization works to ensure the rights of people with disabilities are upheld and supports people with disabilities to make decisions affecting their lives. Think Ability Inc. focuses on creating and maintaing self-advocacy whenever possibe. A self-advocate is someone with a disabilty who is able to make decisions that affect their lives themselves. Think Ability Inc. trains staff to empower and teach people with disabilities to make everyday decisions in their lives.
